You can now ask Alexa to play songs in the Amazon Music app

Voice assistant Alexa is now available in the Amazon Music app on both iOS and Android.

Users in the US, UK, Germany, and Austria can access the feature by hitting the Alexa button available throughout the app. Users can ask for Alexa to play music by genre, decade, mood, tempo, activity, and even lyrics (if you’ve forgotten the song name for instance). The feature is designed for when users don’t have two hands, or the attention required, to dedicate to their phone; or for those already adapted to asking Alexa to play music in their homes. Alexa will respond to instructions like: “play the song of the day,” “play music for cleaning,” or “play the new Foo Fighters album.” The Wall Street Journal reports that Alexa has overtaken mobile as the top way Amazon Music customers listen to music. Amazon already has a hugely successful range of Echo smart speakers, which are deeply integrated with its music offerings and in millions of homes across the world. Amazon remains third in the music subscription market, behind Spotify and Apple Music, but the WSJ reports that music companies are eyeing Alexa as a way to make Amazon’s music services more competitive. Music companies have also been looking into how songs are categorized and tagged, and how that data can be made to be more responsive to voice-activated applications like Alexa. There’s no word yet on when the new feature will roll out to other countries.                                                                                                                     https://www.theverge.com/2017/9/26/16365354/alexa-amazon-music-app
